In 2021 Baystar installed an EcoForest 5-22kW Ground Source Heat Pump at Rosemead in Guidford as part of a large renovation, The system supplied 100% of the heating and hot water demand at the property and was eligible for the RHI scheme which pre-dates the more recent Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) incentive. Baystar were subsequently asked to install a large solar PV system to feed into the house.
As this sat in an Area of Outstanding Beauty we needed to be considerate of the landscape and any overlooking neighbors, we therefore opted for a low profile mounting system on a simple platform made up from pea shingle, this will allow for easy maintenance.
We installed 72no. optimised panels with 2no. 10kW inverters connected to 20kW of battery storage with a back up module that allows the property to remain powered from the batteries in the event of a grid outage, we also installed a Solar Water heater device and two EV chargers.
We were able to integrate the smart solar system into the existing GSHP control system to allow any excess solar to control flow temperatures and heating in order to better utilise energy generated rather than to discharge to the grid. In June 2024 the system produces 3,820kWh, of which 65% directly fed the property from the panels and 31% was drawn from the stored power in the batteries meaning that in that month the property only needed 40kWh from the grid (4%)
