What you need to know
Published on Wednesday 21st January the governments Warm Homes Plan has been produced. It aims to make energy saving materials and installations more accessible.
The headlines are;
- extension to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) by a further year to 2029/30
- offering £7,500 grants for ground and air source heat pumps
- additional £600m in funding available for low-income households
- Including for the full cost of solar panels and batteries, increasing the total available funds to £5bn
- and interestingly, the introduction of Low and zero-interest loans for households, which will be irrespective of income

The Warm Homes Plan has been in the works since 2024 and with fuel prices and general cost of living being so high, cannot have been implemented soon enough.
It’s publication indeed provides much needed guidance and confidence to the renewable energy industry. Installers have been left to wonder what may be next. Whether the government would withdraw support to the industry in favour of further cuts.
Moreover, with government support comes good press, on page 28 of the Warm Homes Plan it is stated that:
“Consumer satisfaction is extremely high, with 90-95% of property owners that had their heat pump installed under the government’s BUS satisfied with their heating system.”
This of course flies in the face of many contradictory articles penned over the years. This has become the sole purpose of selling papers.
